Jermuk
Jermuk is one of three resort towns in Armenia, located at an altitude of 2,080 meters above sea level.
The Arpa River Gorge divides the town into two parts. This settlement was first mentioned in the 13th century in the historian Stepanos Orbelian's "History of the State of Sisakan."
The healing mineral waters of Jermuk have long been known and are used by both ordinary people and Syunik princes to treat various ailments.
A special drinking hall has been built for guests of Jermuk, where mineral water at a temperature of 30° to 50°C is dispensed through several taps.
Despite the town's rich historical past, its current existence began only in 1940, with the completion of the first sanatorium.
Waterfall
This natural wonder, which falls from a height of about 70 meters into the Arpa Gorge, resembling flowing hair, was called by the people "Mermaid's Hair" and woven its own legend.
From ancient times, on the site of today's waterfall, on the edge of the abyssal rocks, there was a prince's castle, whose beautiful daughter was part of the virgin nature. People came from different parts of the world to ask for the princess's hand in marriage, but she rejected everyone, because her heart belonged to the young, brave and beautiful son of the shepherd. Every day, after midnight, from the window of her bedroom in the castle, the young princess threw the end of a long rope into the gorge, with which the shepherd's son climbed out of the deep gorge to his beloved.
The prince soon found out about this, became furious, foamed and cursed his daughter. If she ever meets the shepherd's son again, let her turn into a mermaid and never come out of the water. However, nothing could keep the young lovers from the temptation of meeting, and once again, in order to help her lover climb to her castle, the beauty hangs her long and beautiful hair from the cliff instead of a rope. However, at that very moment, her father's cruel curse is fulfilled: the beauty turns into a mermaid, and her beautiful hair, falling into the gorge, becomes a magnificent waterfall, which the people call "Mermaid's Hair."
Mineral waters
The hallmark of the resort town is a beer hall with mineral water, located in the very center of the city. This columned structure with unique architectural solutions has become one of the most famous symbols of the city of Jermuk. the beer hall serves mineral water with 5 different temperatures: from 30 °C to 53°C:
